  • Brief description

    The Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) is a versatile, fully automated platform designed for precise measurement of various physical properties of materials, including electrical transport, heat capacity, magnetic susceptibility, and thermal conductivity, over a wide temperature and magnetic field range. It provides a modular environment with interchangeable measurement options, enabling comprehensive characterization of materials under controlled cryogenic and magnetic conditions.

  • Specifications: 

    -Cryogen-free, two-stage pulse-tube cooling, no liquid cryogens

    -Temperature range: ~1.8 K to 400 K

    -Cooldown: ~40 min from 300 K to ~1.9 K

    -Temperature stability & control: continuous low-temperature & sweep modes

    -Magnetic field: superconducting, switch-less up to ±14 T

    -Field uniformity: ~0.1 % over ~5.5 cm on-axis (for 14 T)

    -Field ramp rates: 0.2 to 100 Oe/s typical

    -Vacuum / sample chamber: integrated cryopump, base vacuum <10-4 Torr

    -Sample interface: retains 12-pin PPMS puck format

    -Measurement options: VSM, AC/DC magnetometry, transport, thermal, sub-kelvin

    -Expandability: rotator, optical probes, He-3, ADR, dilution modules

    -Temperature accuracy / stability typical: ±0.1 % for T < 20 K, ±0.02 % for T > 20 K

    -Compatibility: supports user-designed experiments via open architecture
